Deezer Launches AI Music Scanner for Third-Party Playlists

A staggering 44% of new music uploads hitting streaming platforms are now AI-generated, prompting Deezer to release a free, cross-platform detection tool. The scanner allows users of services like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music to identify synthetic tracks lurking within their own personal libraries.

Deezer Launches AI Music Scanner for Third-Party Playlists

Deezer has positioned itself as the industry’s most aggressive opponent of synthetic audio, moving beyond simple tagging to actively purge AI content from recommendations. While competitors like Spotify and Apple Music have largely opted for labeling systems, the company is now opening its proprietary detection technology to the public. Users grant the tool access to their playlists, which are then scanned for AI-generated material that can be identified and shared.

This shift follows internal data revealing that Deezer faces an influx of roughly 75,000 AI-generated tracks daily. Although these uploads total over two million each month, actual listener engagement remains minimal, accounting for only 1-3% of total streams. The platform notes that approximately 85% of these interactions are classified as fraudulent and consequently demonetized. CEO Alexis Lanternier stated that the company is now evaluating stricter measures, including potential content removal and updated supplier policies, similar to recent bans implemented by platforms like Bandcamp.
