ShinyHunters Breach Targets PeopleSoft Servers at Over 100 Entities

The prolific cybercrime syndicate ShinyHunters claims to have compromised Oracle PeopleSoft servers across more than 100 organizations, primarily targeting universities. By exploiting vulnerabilities in the enterprise software used for payroll and administrative management, the group successfully exfiltrated sensitive student records, including personal contact details and birth dates.

The hackers confirmed to TechCrunch that their latest campaign focuses on mass-compromise tactics, a signature approach for the group. They are targeting data caches containing student, immigration, and financial aid information. According to the attackers, many of the affected academic institutions had already been compromised in previous, unrelated security incidents, suggesting a persistent vulnerability in their digital infrastructure.

The group initially intended to infiltrate an FBI PeopleSoft server to issue a public denial regarding their alleged involvement in a series of swatting incidents flagged by the bureau last month. That specific attempt proved unsuccessful. Oracle has declined to comment on the scope of the breach or the security status of their software.
