Wing Scales Drone Deliveries Across Seven New US Cities

Autonomous drone operator Wing is accelerating its push into mainstream retail by adding seven major U.S. metropolitan areas to its delivery network. Through an expanded partnership with Walmart, the Alphabet-owned company aims to integrate its aerial logistics into 270 store locations nationwide by the end of next year.

The latest expansion targets Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Salt Lake City. These additions bring the current service footprint to nearly 20 markets, building on established operations in Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Greater Houston. Further growth is already slated for Orlando, Tampa, Charlotte, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, and Miami.

Walmart’s strategy has shifted from localized testing to aggressive scaling following high engagement rates in initial pilot zones. The company committed to adding drone service to 150 additional stores back in January, signaling a move toward standardized last-mile aerial logistics. Wing reports that it has surpassed 1 million commercial deliveries to date, with its most active users ordering three times per week. Chief business officer Heather Rivera noted that the high frequency of repeat orders proves the service has moved beyond experimental novelty into a relied-upon convenience for modern consumers.
