The rollout brings support for over 70 languages to the Translate app, provided the user has a compatible Android device. Beyond audio, Google is integrating Gemini to refine text translations. This update targets the nuances of language that baffle standard algorithms, specifically improving the handling of idioms and regional slang that literal translation engines frequently misinterpret.
Google is also scaling its Practice feature, which functions as an AI-driven tutor for vocabulary and listening skills. Currently expanding into 20 additional countries, the tool adapts to a user’s specific proficiency level. While live speech-to-speech functionality begins its journey in the US, Mexico, and India, the company confirmed plans to port the capability to iOS devices by next year.
