The company faced a difficult choice as component costs surged. CEO Carl Pei recently highlighted the severity of the situation, revealing that memory expenses for the Phone 4A doubled between the project's inception and its launch, with costs doubling again since. Pei now identifies memory as the most expensive component in a modern smartphone, a trend currently forcing price hikes across the industry, including at Apple.

Despite the cancellation, the Nothing team remains active in other areas. Evangelidis confirmed that CMF will continue to release new products and enter entirely new categories. Furthermore, the company hinted that its smartphone launch cycle for the current calendar year has not yet concluded, suggesting that other mobile projects may still be on the horizon.
