Instagram users gain control over profile grid layout

After nearly a year of anticipation, Instagram is finally granting users the ability to manually rearrange their profile grids. Starting June 8, the feature is rolling out globally on Android and iOS, ending the strict chronological lockdown that previously dictated how photos and videos appeared on a user’s main page.

The update allows users to long-press and drag any post to a new position, regardless of its original date. While pinned posts will retain their fixed placement at the top of the feed, the rest of the gallery can now be curated to fit a specific aesthetic or narrative flow. This shift addresses a long-standing frustration for creators who felt their visual layouts were compromised when the platform transitioned from square thumbnails to a taller, vertical format.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, acknowledged the change with a brief "Finally" on social media. The development follows a lengthy testing phase and fulfills a promise made in January of last year. Despite the update, the user base continues to push for further improvements, with demands for a native iPad interface remaining a prominent request among those waiting for more significant platform overhauls.
