Nvidia’s RTX Spark N1X Naming Creates Hardware Confusion

A $1,100 price gap separates two versions of the Nvidia RTX Spark N1X, leaving buyers to navigate drastically different internal specifications under a single product name. While both chips share the same branding, the disparity in core counts and memory capacity fundamentally alters the performance ceiling for local AI tasks.

The base configuration of the RTX Spark N1X features 5,120 GPU cores, 18 CPU cores, and a 32GB RAM ceiling, serving as the entry point for the $2,600 Surface Laptop Ultra. In contrast, the premium tier upgrades the hardware to 6,144 GPU cores and 20 CPU cores, while allowing for a significantly higher memory threshold of up to 128GB. This top-tier model pushes the starting price to $3,700.

For professionals relying on local AI processing, the distinction is more than just a spec-sheet curiosity. The limited RAM on the entry-level chip acts as a bottleneck for intensive workloads, effectively forcing users to invest in the more expensive hardware to reach the memory capacity required for complex local compute operations.
