Valve Imports Massive Shipment of VR Hardware to Los Angeles

The German container ship Posen docked in Los Angeles on June 10th, carrying nearly 13 tons of new virtual reality hardware. Industry data suggests this shipment marks the first mass production arrival of the Steam Frame, Valve's upcoming gaming headset, as the company ramps up inventory ahead of a summer launch.

The shipment, processed by Valve’s logistics partner Ceva, consisted of roughly 32 metric tons of total cargo, which translates to 13 tons of actual VR product once the weight of the five 40-foot shipping containers is stripped away. This influx follows a distinct shift in Valve’s supply chain activity, moving from a steady stream of Steam Deck handhelds toward a significant stockpile of VR-specific units.

Simultaneously, Valve continues to build its reserves of the Steam Machine. Since April 23rd, the company has accumulated roughly 141 metric tons of hardware labeled as game consoles. Given the weight specifications of these devices, industry analysts estimate this volume represents fewer than 50,000 consoles currently staged in the United States. While Valve has confirmed that both the Steam Frame and Steam Machine are slated for a summer release, the company previously signaled that global memory shortages—dubbed 'RAMageddon'—forced a difficult reassessment of pricing strategies for the new hardware lineup.
